Swarthmore’s The Creative Living Room hosts a First Friday event on Friday March 2nd at 6pm for kids to come out and meet Dr. Kathy Trow, veterinarian. Enjoy stories about pets, meet a real vet and learn about “a day in the life of a vet” and other fun facts about all creatures great and small. Small animals in cages are welcome to come for a fun show and tell but no cats or dogs, please. Free. Donations appreciated.

It’s another Kids in Center City Playdate this Saturday March 3rd from 11am – 1pm. Bring the kiddos out to the Market and Shops at Comcast Center (lower level) for a visit with the characters of SuperWHY plus a story reading and special screening of a SuperWHY episode. Merchants will also be offering kid-friendly lunch specials, arts and crafts a game station and a cupcake decorating station from Philly’s beloved Termini Bros. Free.

These 2 hour art classes for kids take place every Sunday through March 11th from 1- 3 pm at the Absecon Light House. Philadelphia Young Artists Orchestra Concert

A special performance of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra will take place this Sunday March 4th at 2pm at the Union League of Philadelphia. Geoffrey McDonald conducts 70+ talented middle- and high-school aged classical musicians performing beloved works by Rossini, Britten and Beethoven. Proceeds benefit The Union League of Philadelphia’s Youth Work Foundation. Tickets $10-$15. Ages 13 and younger free.

The first Sunday of the month means Pay What You Wish Admission at the Philadelphia Museum of Art this Sunday March 4th from 10am – 5pm. And take part in the museum’s Family & Children’s programs offering:
• Marvelous Mosaics at the Family Studio – a space for all ages to create and explore art. Runs from 10am – 3pm.
• Medieval Art Stops – discover the secrets behind the armor, stained glass, masonry and panel painting. Runs from 11am – 2pm.
What a great and affordable way to take the whole family to the art museum without worrying that you paid full admission if you have to leave early for naps or one of your little one melts down in one of the exhibits. Free. Donations welcomed.

Sunday March 4th is the opening day of the renowned Philadelphia International Flower Show with the them of Hawaii: Islands of Aloha for 2012. Be transported to Hawaii as you experience projections of crashing waves and pass under a display of more than 2,000 orchids upon entering this year’s flower show. Plus enjoy stunning floral displays, juried flower arranging competitions, hula and live dancing and vendors selling flower and garden related merchandise.
