Easter weekend phillyfun picks

It’s Easter and Passover and the weather is supposed to be practically perfect! We can’t ask for much more than this for a beautiful holiday weekend in Philly. Get out and enjoy this gorgeous weekend of egg hunts, bunny sightings and lots of other holiday fun for all!

Hayrides to Bunnyland

Hayrides to Bunnyland are an annual tradition in our house and if you haven’t been I can say it’s a family trip worth making. Head out to Linvilla Orchards in Media, PA for this last weekend of Hayrides to Bunnyland for 2012. Kids get to take a hayride through the woods out to the Easter Bunny’s home where the bunny emerges to great children, take photos and receive a little bag of Easter candy. Plus see the baby chick and little lamb displays. Hayrides to Bunnyland runs Friday April 6th and Saturday April 7th from 11am – 4pm. Tickets are $8 per person.

Take a ride with Peter Cottontail this weekend on the Easter Bunny Express in Strasburg PA. This 45-minute train ride on an authentic steam engine through beautiful Lancaster County is sure to get your little ones hopping for Easter with a special Easter surprise plus great photo opps with the bunny himself! Trains depart hourly from 11am – 4pm on Friday April 6th and 11am – 4pm as well as 6pm on Saturday April 7th. On Easter Sunday trains depart hourly from 11am 3pm. Tickets $3-$17.

The rescheduled Play-a-Palooza at SMITH Playground takes place this Saturday April 7th from 10am – 1pm. Enjoy face painting and traditional field day games such as sack races, water balloon toss, egg and spoon relays and more. Plus kids will enjoy water ice, treats and other fun. Free for SMITH members. $10 per child for non-members.

Head to the DaVinci Science Center for some EggCellent adventures this weekend including the return of the popular Just Born Peep Flavored Egg Drop challenge where visitors are asked to protect eggs from cracking and breaking as they drop 19 feet from a balcony toward a fixed target. The EggCellent Adventures including the egg drop, egg golf, and the opportunity to watch baby chicks hatching in an incubator will take place 11am – 3pm on Friday April 6th, Saturday April 7th and Monday April 9th (closed for holiday observance on Sunday April 8th).

Hop on board the New Hope & Ivy Land Easter Bunny Express for a special visit with the Easter Bunny himself during this 45 minute train ride through beautiful Bucks County. The bunny visits with each child, hands out treats and of course poses for photos (extra fee for photo packages). The Easter Bunny Express runs Saturday March 31st Sunday April 1s, Friday April 6th, Saturday April 7th and Sunday April 8th. Tickets $6.25 - $33.95. This free giant egg hunt at the Penns Woods Winery in Chadds Ford, PA on Saturday April 7th from 12 – 3pm will feature refreshments, games and toys for the children in addition to the egg hunt. Plus adults can take part in wine and cupcake pairings (additional fee). Kids can enjoy juice and cupcake pairings, too ($4). Free! Reservations suggested to ensure there are enough eggs.

Northern Liberties’ The Piazza at Schmidt’s is hosting Easter at the Piazza this Saturday April 7th with a great afternoon of fun for the whole family including egg coloring tables, a cupcake truck, an Easter egg hunt, and of course photos with the Easter Bunny! Bring your own camera to get great photos or have professional photos taken there. The fun goes from 11am – 2pm with the egg hunt starting at 12 Noon. Be sure to bring your own basket for collecting eggs! Free.

The 81st Annual Easter Promenade will take place on Sunday April 8th with the parade at 1pm and costume contest immediately to follow. Bring the whole family in their Easter best for dancing, music, fun, mummers, prizes, treats and more. Free.
