It's the last weekend of April and even though there is a chill in the air the sun is shining and there is so much to do in and around Philly this weekend it's going to be tough to choose!! 23rd Annual Civil War Re-enactment

23rd Annual Civil War Re-enactment Event is the largest Civil War re-enactment on the East Coast outside of Gettysburg. More than 1,000 re-enactors will converge on the park for this event featuring authentic battle re-enactments, camp life scenarios, military & civilian life demonstrations and performances by the Camptown Shakers, a band specializing in Civil War era music. Rain or shine. While admission is free, a voluntary collection will be taken & all proceeds will go toward Civil War preservation efforts. Free admission. Donations welcome.

Junior Ranger Day. The rag-tag volunteers that arrived at Valley Forge in December 1777 left six months later a disciplined army. Kids ages 6-12 can get a taste of the training that created America’s first fighting force on the historic grounds where it happened 224 years ago. At learning stations set up around the grounds, rangers & educators will help kids enjoy the park in a whole new way.

In keeping with that ancient practice, Master Storyteller Charlotte Blake Alston will share traditional stories and songs from our past including African and American oral and cultural traditions. The program is suitable for all ages.
