June already?? How did THAT happen? Well, the temperature has dropped a bit - thank goodness because the fun to be had for the whole family is just waiting for you this weekend. It’s First Friday plus plenty of festivals and other great summertime fun for all.

First Friday isn’t just for the big kids at this Family Fun First Friday event on Friday June 1st. The Philadelphia Dance Academy will be hosting an open house from 5-7pm featuring class demonstrations, past show screenings, tours of the Academy, a mini-class and light refreshments. Plus, at the Old City Day School in the same building will be a Family Fun Festival until 8pm featuring Alex & The Kaleidoscope Band while also getting to mingle with Philly’s local children’s businesses in Old City. Don’t miss this evening of family, fun and live entertainment Free.

It’s a First Friday Family Hoedown at Swarthmore’s Creative Living Room on Friday June 1st at 6pm. Dress your littlest cowgirls and cowboys up in their country best cloths and head over for the hoedown! Enjoy a variety of stories, some country line dancing, and do-si-doing plus some simple crafts for the whole family.

Summer means time for Friday Night Fireworks in New Hope/Lambertville in beautiful Bucks County this Friday June 1st starting at 9:30pm. Enjoy this 10 minute fireworks spectacular this and every Friday night in New Hope now through August 31st. Many businesses on both sides of the river will also be open late for summer shopping. Free.


Grounds for Sculpture Anniversary Party

Head out to the Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ this Saturday June 2nd between 11am - 4pm for their annual Anniversary Arts Party celebrating the Grounds for Sculpture birthday. This summer birthday bash features kids’ arts workshops, musical performances, opportunities to meet local working artists and tour the park with them. Plus, you can participate in the Grounds for Sculpture commemorative quilt project, free ice cream and birthday cake and everyone's favorite activity - the peacock calling contest. Free with park admission. Rain or shine!

Devon Horse Show

It’s the final weekend of the Devon Horse Show, the oldest and largest outdoor multi-breed competition in the country, which just happens to be on the Main Line right outside of Philadelphia. In addition to the Horse Show, the Devon County Fair offers unique vendors, delicious treats like home made fudge and other old time candy and lunch/dinner options yummy options for the whole family. Plus enjoy rides, games and other attractions to make this an event for kids of all ages. The Devon Horse Show and County Fair runs through June 3, 2012. General single day admission tickets are $5 for children ages 3-12, $10 for adults, and free for ages 2 and under.

Strawberry Festival

The annual strawberry festival will take place this Saturday June 2nd at Linvilla Orchards. Head out for pick your own strawberries plus a celebration of the sweet red treat with fun for the whole family. Enjoy a display of raptors on tour plus a character visit from everyone’s favorite purple dinosaur and other beloved children’s characters. Live entertainment from Makin’ Music. And of course hayrides, petting zoo, and strawberry treats galore. Festival is free. Some attractions ticketed.


17th Annual Arts in the Park Juried Craft Show and Festival

The annual Arts in the Park craft show and festival taking place from 10am – 5pm on Sunday June 3rd features lots for families including children’s crafts such as pressed flower prints, recycled water bottle fish, handmade paper and more. And kids will be entertained by the face painting, wagon rides, moonbounce and native plant scavengers hunt. Plus live music, great food and refreshments, a raffle, plant sale and much more! Suggested donation is $5. Pay per activity.

Thought the Philly Bike Race was just for adults? Think again - the East Falls Bike Race Block Party happening on Sunday June 3rd from 10am – 2pm is a celebration of fun for the kiddos too with trike races for the younger crowd and bike races for children 12 years and under. Plus face painting, crafts, science demonstrations and live music, too. Free.

Italian American Heritage Festival Sunday June 3rd

The third annual Italian American Heritage Festival taking place on Sunday June 3rd at Rose Tree Park in Media, PA is a celebration of Italian cuisine and culture with more than 30 food vendors featuring specialties Italian items. There will also be live entertainment at three separate staging areas as well as dancers, magicians, and an Italian classic car show. The little kids will enjoy Italian lessons on the lawn, a performance by Makin’ Music, a scavenger hunt and book readings. Older children will also get to take part in bocce lessons, a fashion show and a special lesson on writing in cuneiform. Free admission.

The 14th annual Irish American Festival takes place on the waterfront at the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing on Sunday June 3rd from 12-8pm. This family-friendly festival of the Irish features well-known musical performers, Irish dancers, Irish food and more. Plus enjoy bagpipes, facepainting, and KidZone. And over 40 vendors will be selling their traditional Irish goods and crafts. Free.
