Weekend phillyfun picks: Aug. 17th - Aug. 19th

SO much to do on one of the final weekends of summer including “Roar and Snore” camp out under the stars at the Philadelphia Zoo, a children’s film festival in Wilmington, fireworks, fruit festivals and so much more.

Head to the Delaware Museum of Natural History in Wilmington, DE for the Brandywine Family Film Festival running this Friday August 17th through Sunday August 19th starting at 6:30pm each night. Enjoy three nights of summer movies under the stars featuring international children’s movies making their Brandywine Valley premiers. Beginning at 7:30pm each night a series of 3-4 minute films will be shown, followed by the full length 70 minute featured film starting at 8pm. Vendors will also be on hand with food and beverages for purchase or pack your own light picnic and snacks. $5-$10.

Join Travelodge at the Philadelphia Zoo this Saturday August 18th starting at 10am for their Great Sleepy Bear Swap. The first 100 children who bring in a used teddy bear for donation to children will get free admission to the zoo and their own brand new sleepy bear! All gently loved stuffed animals donated will be donated to Stuffed Animals for Emergencies (SAFE) and 11th Hour Rescue.

Tomato & Pear Festival

Linvilla Orchards will host the tomato and pear festival this Saturday August 18th with pick your own starting at 8am and lots of fun all day long for the whole family. The 3rd Annual Free Family Fest takes place this Saturday August 18th from 11am – 4pm on the Wilmington Riverftont. This cool family fun fest turns the riverfront into a playground for the day with blow-up bounces, a giant obstacle course, slides and more. Plus kids can rock out on the “Get Up and Move Stage” or participate in the Amazing Riverfront Wilmington Race. A “Back to School” expo area will get you and the little ones ready to start school soon. Food, beverages and snacks will also be available for purchase. Free.

Mess Fest

It’s the final weekend of Mess Fest at The Franklin Institute starting this Saturday August 18th through Sunday August 19th. Kids will never forget this memorable exhibit featuring large-scale, messy, and big demonstrations of science concepts such as gravity, chemical reactions, physical pressure, the Giant Ball Explosion, the Epic Soap Bubble Monster and more. Plus make your own slime and other great hands on exhibits and fun. Free with admission $12.50 - $24.50.

It’s the annual Rubber Ducky Regatta at Morey’s Piers Raging Waters Water Park this Sunday August 19th. Come out to the Boardwalk in Wildwood at 7:30 pm to watch over 10,000 rubber ducks race toward the finish line in Raging Waters Endless River. Free.
