• The Philadelphia Taiko Center (1223 Vine Street) is offering an Introductory Taiko workshop at 9am. Experience this Taiko workshop which will provide an introductory lesson in kumidaiko. The Philadelphia Taiko Center will present two workshops introducing students to playing big drums (taiko) in a group environment. $15 per person. Advanced registration recommended.
• On Saturday March 24th families can enjoy story hour at the Free Library of Philadelphia’s Tacony Branch at 2pm. Come celebrate Japanese culture at this special family program featuring stories, music, and food. Ages 4+. Please contact the Children's Department in advance if you plan to attend.
Sunday March 25th
• Enjoy the art of making Japanese paper figures at Morris Arboretum. Children will hear a story that takes place in the shadow of Mount Fuji. This story holds messages about the power of kindness, sharing and friendship, where children are the heroes. Children will look at and discuss great works of art, and they will also make their own Japanese paper figure to take home. This class is for children ages 3-5. Children in this class must be accompanied by an adult. All materials will be provided. $12 for Morris Arboretum members $15 for non-members.

Eastern University Theatre presents 13, a musical comedy about coming of age, teen traumas and middle school survival. This high-energy musical that tackles the trials and traumas of growing up and fitting in, follows the story of Evan Goldman, a 13-year-old who is forced to move when his parents get divorced and leaves New York for a small town in Indiana. Evan thinks the town is “lame” but is determined to make friends with the most popular kids, so he can throw the best Bar Mizvah party ever. Easier said than done. The star quarterback promises to deliver, but only if Evan meets all his demands and drops his only friend, Patrice. The school geek sees an opportunity for blackmail and someone is spreading the nastiest rumors. Every day he faces a new teen trauma: incitement and extortion, first dates and first kisses, cell phones, cliques, clashes and crushes. It’s a rite of passage story to which all ages can relate (though ideally suited for kids ages 10 and older).

It runs Wednesday thru Saturday March 28-31 at 8PM and Sunday, April 1 at 3PM in McInnis Auditorium. Tickets are $10 general admission, $8 for students and seniors and $5 with an Eastern University ID. Tickets can be reserved by calling 610-225-5545.

Weekend phillyfun picks

The weather got wonderful and the flowers are in bloom – both on the ground and at the Philadelphia International Flower Show! Enjoy the last weekend of the flower show, go on a leprechaun hunt in Narberth, recreate Islamic stained glass at the Penn Museum and much more fun.
