Bring the kids out for an experience they’ll not soon forget at Kids Join the Continental Army as they get to “enlist” in the Continental Army on Saturday February 2nd at 11am at Valley Forge National Historic Site. Children get to experience the life of a continental solider including being issued a (dummy) wooden musket and learning how to stand, march and carry their musket just as a real soldier in Washington’s army would have done. This is the first in a series of kids program each covering different topics. Families are encouraged to return for the series. No registration necessary. Just meet at 10:45am at the Visitors Center.

And…Collaborative Arts and Eastern University's Winter Sort of Thing Clean Green Machine, an original musical comedy of global proportions that is fun for the whole family. Written by Brooke Sexton and music by Sarah C. Butts-Manzo, Clean Green Machine runs one weekend only this Friday February 1st through Sunday February 3rd. The show runs approximately 60 minutes, is performed with an intermission, and is appropriate for all ages. Tickets $10 General Admission, $8 children under 12, $5 with university ID. VIP tickets also available for children to get to meet with the cast and be onstage after Saturday and Sunday performances only.

Franklin the Turtle from the popular Nick Jr. show will make a special live appearance at the Adventure Aquarium this Saturday Feb. 2nd and Sunday Feb. 3rd at various times between 10am and 4pm. Kids will love to get up close and personal with their favorite turtle friend plus have a photo opp and more. Franklin’s appearance is all part of Adventure Aquarium’s special exhibit Turtles: Journey of Survival featuring the incredible story of survival of the turtle over millions of years and running through March 2013. Kids will learn about many types of turtle species and their habitats and conservation efforts to save these amazing animals. Franklin Meet and Greet is free with admission. Admission to Adventure Aquarium is $24.95 for ages 12+, $17.05 for ages 2-12, children under 2 free.

Schachner's latest book, Cirque de Ole, features the beloved quirky wordsmith Siamese cat Skippyjon Jones who thinks he is a Chihuahua taking on the big top at the circus! This event is jointly sponsored by the Animal Friends of Lansdowne and the Lansdowne Public Library and is being held as part of Love Your Pet month at the Lansdowne Library. Books will be available for purchase and signing by the author. All proceeds benefit local animals in need through the Animal Friends of Lansdowne. Free.
