Weekend Phillyfun Picks - March 15-17

It’s St. Patty’s weekend in Philly and lots of fun family happenings in and around the city. Get your green on and find your lucky pot-o-gold at the end of the rainbow at one of these fun events for the whole family!

ArtSee Activities at the Barnes Foundation are taking place all weekend running Friday March 15th from 5-7pm, Saturday March 16th from 11am – 1pm, and Sunday March 17th from 1-3pm. This month’s theme is Keys & Locks so come out and open the door to adventure by making a friendship key bracelet, designing a welcome home bag, and assembling an “unlock the mystery” storybook, too. Free program tickets available on site. Does not include admission to the galleries.


Girl Scout Day at the National Constitution Center

It’s Girl Scout Day at the National Constitution Center this Saturday March 16th from 9am – 5pm. Scouts from around the region can come out for a fun-filled day learning about our country at the only museum dedicated to the US Constitution while meeting scout requirements and working toward badges. Activity tables, workshops and shows will be set-up for scouts. Cost is $12-$14. One free scout leader entrance for each 10 scouts. 

Sugarloaf Crafts Festival

The Sugarloaf Crafts Festival returns to the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks this weekend running Friday March 15th through Sunday March 17th. Check out more than 250 top artisans displaying and selling their unique creations in pottery, sculpture, glass, jewelry, fashion, home décor, furniture and home accessories, items for the garden, and photography. And for the kiddos, Middle Earth Studios will again offer their popular costumed storytelling where children can join in the fun in these interactive story-time events. Tickets are $10 at the door. Children 12 and under are free.

Seafarin’ Saturday takes place at the Independence Seaport Museum this Saturday March 16th from 11am – 1pm. Enjoy a hands-on family program with a maritime theme all while exploring and enjoying the museum. Cost is $13.50 for adults, $10 for children, under 2 free.

What’s the Difference Concert for Kids

Families will enjoy this unique concert designed for both kids and adults at the Trinity Center for Urban Life featuring Astral artists on various instruments including clarinet, viola, piano and bassoon. It’s Waffle Day at the American Swedish Historical Museum this Saturday March 16th starting at 11am. Learn all about the tradition of Swedish Waffles. Taste Swedish waffles topped with whipped cream, strawberry jam, and more. $10.

Great Narberth Leprechaun Hunt

It’s the return of the much anticipated Great Narberth Leprechaun Hunt this Saturday March 16th from 1-4pm in downtown Narberth. Start out at the Blarney Booth at the corner of Haverford and Forrest Ave to get their empty black plastic pot-o’-gold. Kids must then go on a scavenger hunt to locate the nine hidden Leprechauns scattered throughout the town. When kids find one, they get a “gold” chocolate coin to put in their pot. And once they have all nine coins and found all the leprechauns kids return to the Blarney booth for their prize – a shiny golden U.S. Dollar coin. Free.

Dance a jig to your favorite Sesame songs, wear your most festive green outfits and enjoy a buffet lunch complete with Irish inspired flavors and treats for all. $27 + tax for adults, $17 + tax for children ages 2-11. The original family dance party Baby Loves Disco returns to Philadelphia this Sunday March 17th at Shampoo Nightclub from 12 Noon – 3pm as Baby Loves Disco gets kids and their parents dancing to a real DJ and great tunes in the March pajama party. In addition to the music, kids will also love the crafts, bubbles, activities and unlimited drink boxes. Plus adults can take part in the cash bar and dancing, too! $12 per walking human.

In the Artifact Lab: Conserving Egyptian Mummies

This unique opportunity to explore a real working laboratory at the Penn Museum features a glass enclosed conservation lab allowing visitors to see the tools of the trade and observe real conservators at work on Egyptian objects including rare paintings, ancient funerary objects and of course mummies. And twice daily, visitors can speak with a conservator (Sat. and Sun. 1pm and 3:30pm). Free with admission $6 - $12. Ages 5 and younger free.
