Recently we hosted friends and family to our house for a most magical celebration – our #DisneySide @Home Celebration party! I was lucky enough to be chosen to be a Disney Side @Home hostess again this year. You can read the re-cap of last year’s celebration here. We received our party kit in the mail a few weeks ago and the girls were just over the moon excited that we were fortunate enough to get selected again to host.
If you’re at all like me, planning for Disney – or a Disney Side @Home Celebration – is more than half of the fun! Together as a family we selected the theme for our party and decided on “Classic Mickey” because the party kit we got was a multigenerational kit and we thought this would have broad appeal across all ages. We printed out fabulous invitations on the HP printer paper that was included in our kits and encouraged all our guests to join us in costumes showing their #DisneySide too!
There are so more great ideas and suggestions on planning your own Multigenerational Disney Side @Home Celebration here!
We loved planning the menu and food for our Disneyside @Home party and decided on Hot Diggity Dogs (pigs in blankets), Minnie’s Meatballs (more on these in a bit), Mickey pretzels, Mickey ears cupcakes, Kickin’ Chickin Buffalo Chicken dip, Duff Goldman’s Tie Dye Cake in a Mickey Mouse head shape and other fun and tasty treats!
The kids and I had so much fun making this cool tie-dye Mickey cake with Duff Goldman’s awesome tie-dye cake mix and the Wilton Mickey Mouse pan included in our @Home Celebration kits! Then later, I made homemade buttercream frosting to ice the cake.We also made cupcakes and frosted those with the homemade butter cream icing and then we put in two mini Oreos for Mickey ears and viola!
Another HUGE hit at the party were our delicious Soy Vay Tropical Teriyaki Meatballs (or “Minnie’s Meatballs”). To make these we bought frozen homestyle (not Italian) meatballs (we used the Walmart Great Value brand but Ikea Meatballs or Trader Joes’ frozen meatballs would also work great) and heated them up before putting in a crockpot. We then poured in a whole bottle of the Soy Vay Veri Veri Teriyaki and added some frozen chunks of pinneaple. They simmered on low for a bit and that’s it! Everyone gobbled them up and said how delicious they were! So easy and so tasty and fun!
As I said, part of the fun of this celebration for me is in the planning and I love thinking of new ways to show our Disneyside at home. Last year I made this fun wreath to hang on the door. This year, I decided to make a Mickey door mat that was so super easy and I think turned out pretty cute. I also cut mickey heads and placed them all around on windows. We had Disney photo booth station where guests could wear Mickey ears or princess hats and get their photos too!
Again this year, my good friend hand made these incredible custom wine glasses for the adults which were so much festive to use and each guest even got to take their glass home with them, too.
Each family also got to go home with an ABC Family goody bag filled with fun treats like a pack of HP Photo Paper, Twinnings tea, a coupon . The kid goody bags were actually purchased from Subway (I could NOT resist these adorable classic Minnie and Mickey messenger style bags) and then filled with Disney stickers, pencils, and other treats.
Including in our hostess kits were some fabulous treats and goodies from the incredible sponsors of the #Disneyside @Home celebrations including All, Whisk, Twinnings of Longon, Soy Vey, HP, DisneyParks and more.
Of course, no DisneySide party is complete in our house without PRINCESSES! We had several including my two girls and a bevy of other bejeweled princesses ready to party.
Our party kit included all sorts of great games and activities including Disney Bingo, pin the smile on Mickey, Tree of Life family trees, Disney trivia and more! In addition to all the great Disney themed games and activities we also encouraged our guests to bring their lanyards and trade pins since pin trading has become such a special part of Disney for our family. And of course each guest (kid or kid at heart) got to pick their favorite pin from our pin favors. One of my favorite moments of the party was when a dad was leaving and I asked if he got his pin yet and he said he thought that was just for the kids. I replied “Oh no – EVERYONE gets to show their Disneyside tonight!” We also made up some of our own games including “Pass the Palace Pet” which was like hot potato but with a Palace Pet and princess freeze dance, too!
It’s been such a brutally cold and icy winter and the day of our party was no exception. There was snow and ice warnings and at one point I was not sure if anyone was going to make it. But the majority of our guests did still come out – I guess it’s hard to keep folks away from Disney magic and fun!
