I honestly don’t know how ya’all are going to decide what to do this coming weekend with the Philly Celebration of Play taking place and also the Free Family Arts Festival at the newly opening Lenfest Plaza at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts from noon to 5pm on Saturday Oct. 1st. There will be hands-on arts activities such as printmaking, spin art, face painting and more, along with appearances by Kathy O’Connell of WXPN’s Kids Corner, IllStyle and Peace Hip Hop, and the Philadelphia Boys’ Choir & Chorale, among others. Of course, there will also be food vendors on hand to keep little stomachs happy. You may have already heard that Lenfest Plaza is open for business, adorned with renowned sculptor Claes Oldenberg’s colorful new Paint Torch. This beautiful, open public space for PAFA students, visitors and Philadelphia residents alike is an exciting new chapter for us, and that’s why we’re throwing a party on Saturday, October 1st! You can also view PAFA’s outstanding collection of American art in their historic landmark building with free admission and tour guides on hand until 5pm. And at 6:30pm, you can witness the inaugural lighting of the 51-ft sculpture, Paint Torch. And all of this is Free!!
