Harvest Happenings at The Oval, The New Shape of Fall

Beginning Thursday, Oct. 10th through Sunday October 13th, The Oval (on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway) will be activated with programming, events and activities for all ages during a final pop-up weekend. It will be transformed into a fall wonderland and each day will offer fall-themed community programming perfect for families including:
* pumpkin painting
* hayrides
* a petting zoo
* Philadelphia’s Open Air Market (PHAIR)
* workshops by the Franklin Institute and the Philadelphia Film Festival
* food trucks with fall treats
* a Halloween costume contest!! (with prizes)
* interactive game and giveaways
* and much more!

About The Oval:Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, in partnership with the Fairmount Park Conservancy, revealed the City of Philadelphia’s new “Park on the Parkway” in July 2013. The eight acres of public space located on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway known as Philadelphia’s own “Avenue des Champs-Élysées,” Eakins Oval (2601 Benjamin Franklin Parkway) became The Oval, a park with community programming, events and activities. Designed to promote the Parkway as a neighborhood park for all Philadelphians, The Oval offers a wide array of activities and amenities, and features park spaces that all ages can easily access and enjoy. This fall, programming will continues with two pop-up themed weekends in September and October.

On Saturday August 10th the festival heads out doors to Arch Street where families can take a ride in an Amish buggy and horse drawn wagon rides plus a farm animal petting zoo and live bluegrass music. The Oval Now Open in Philadelphia

Do you guys all know about The Oval? It opened this week and is transforming Eakins Oval’s eight acres of public space at the base of the Ben Franklin Parkway into a “Park on the Parkway.”

The Oval will be open from July 17 through August 18, 2013, Tuesday through Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Each day at The Oval will have a different programming theme:
Tuesdays, Wellness
Wednesdays, Arts & Culture
Thursdays, Environment
Fridays, Food & Flicks
Saturdays, Live Music Series
Sundays, Family Fun Day

Don’t miss the free daytime and evening programming—for all ages and interests; free interactive games and fitness activities; free educational and environmental programs; free live entertainment; free movie nights; and new food trucks daily.
