Dog lovers rejoice – it’s National Dog Show Month!
As part of the celebration, Footlighters Theatre, the oldest community theatre on the Main Line, will present a six-show run of the children’s musical, The Perfect Dog, this November in Berwyn.
Dates for the family-friendly show kick-off this week starting on Thursday Nov. 17th at 7:3p.m. and run through Sunday Nov. 24th at 2 p.m.
Cost for admission is $18 for adults and $12 for children 12 years and under. Opening night tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for children. Tickets are available at the door and online via https://www.footlighterstheater.com. A portion of the proceeds will support the maintenance of the historic venue, which was established in 1929 in Wayne.
The Perfect Dog was adapted from the book of the same name by John O’Hurley, the author and television personality who hosts the Philadelphia-based National Dog Show Presented by Purina, which airs as a Thanksgiving Day special on NBC.
O’Hurley, best known for his role as catalogue king J. Peterman on Seinfeld, will attend the Thursday, November 14, showing of The Perfect Dog and do a talk-back with the audience following the closing songs. O’Hurley has appeared on Broadway in a host of different roles, most prominently as Billy Flynn in the iconic musical Chicago.
In the play, Sam, a 12 year-old perfectionist, must resort to training Max, the not-so-obedient family dog for the “Town Dog Contest.” In the end, Sam and Max learn that there is no such thing as perfect, but there is such a thing as perfect for each other. The role of Sam will be played by 13-year-old Aly Brisbois from Gilbertsville, who will be part of an 18-member cast. “Max the Dog” is portrayed by John Keefrider of Schwenksville, Pennsylvania. Music for the performance is by David Abbinanti (Ghost, Saturday Night Fever, Ring of Fire) and the script is by Jill Abbinanti (Law & Order, CSI-SVU, Pan-Am).
The Perfect Dog has been a Delaware Valley staple since 2015, benefiting various charities including regional canine rescue organizations.
The shows are part of National Dog Show Month in Philadelphia featuring the Kennel Club of Philadelphia’s National Dog Show on Saturday and Sunday November 16 and 17 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks. Tickets to the National Dog Show are $16 for adults and $7 for children ages 4-12 and are available at https://nds.nationaldogshow.com/
