Lots to do in and around Philly this weekend…Don’t miss the start of the Subaru Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival, Science Festival Day at Citizens Bank Ballpark, and other great spring fun in Philly, too!


Subaru Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival

The Subaru Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival is an annual celebration not only of spring and beautiful blossoms, but of Japanese culture as well.  Each year, over the course of a few weeks, a wide variety of events are planned.  From demonstrations of martial arts and ikebana flower arranging to library story hours to live musical and dance performances, the Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival presents traditional and contemporary Japanese culture to Philadelphia and its visitors. Isaiah Zagar, the creator of the Philadelphia Magic Gardens, often includes his thoughts, experiences and dreams in his mosaics. His legacy is reflected throughout the artwork at the Gardens. Join PMG and Mighty Writers for an afternoon of exploring your legacy and creating mixed media collages that engage the topics of family, history and dreams. Family-friendly tours will be held at 1pm and 3pm. Free with admission.


Autism Awareness Day

Enjoy Autism Awareness Day at the Philadelphia Zoo on Sunday April 8th featuring an autism research expo and marketplace, sensory and craft stations, magic shows, jugglers, live music and character appearances. Tickets $14, includes zoo admission.


Circus and Storytelling Family Festival

Head to the Woodmere Art Museum on Sunday April 8th for the Circus and Storytelling Family Festival. Readings of excerpts from Charles Santore’s children’s books The Wizard of Oz, Paul Revere’s Ride, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Aesop’s Fables will inspire young artists to create puppets and masks of their favorite characters. Philadelphia School of Circus Arts Mime artists and stilt walkers will roam through the galleries. Aerial, trapeze, juggling and tightwire artists from the Little Circus provide an interactive performance at 2pm that interprets Charles Santore’s children’s book illustrations. Kids can meet with the performers and learn some circus arts after the performance. $5.


Science Festival Day

The Phillies will celebrate science, and in particular the science of baseball at Science Festival Day at the Citizens Bank Ballpark on Sunday April 8th. Kids of all ages are invited to explore and take part in science activities throughout the concourse.  The team takes on the Miami Marlins during this game. Part of the Philadelphia Science Festival.
