The 24th Annual Pennsylvania Dutch Festival takes place at Philadelphia’s Reading Terminal Market this Friday August 9th through Saturday August 10th. Bring the kids to celebrate the rich traditions of the Pennsylvania Dutch traditions, foods, crafts and culture with homemade crafts, traditional foods, and more. On Saturday August 10th the festival heads out doors to Arch Street where families can take a ride in an Amish buggy and horse drawn wagon rides plus a farm animal petting zoo and live bluegrass music. Discounted $4 parking is available at the Hilton Garden Inn garage at 11th and Arch Streets. Free.

In the Artifact Lab: Conserving Egyptian Mummies

This unique opportunity to explore a real working laboratory at the Penn Museum features a glass enclosed conservation lab allowing visitors to see the tools of the trade and observe real conservators at work on Egyptian objects including rare paintings, ancient funerary objects and of course mummies. And twice daily, visitors can speak with a conservator (Sat. and Sun. 1pm and 3:30pm). Free with admission $6 – $12. Ages 5 and younger free.
